How to Play Charades
Playing with Younger Kids: Charades can be difficult for younger children to play. It's okay to be flexible with younger kids and give them help with what to do, and let them make noises when it's their turn to act. The important thing is to have fun.
How to Win: The first team to accumulate five cards wins.
Two-Player Variation: Instead of teams, one player acts while the other guesses.
How to Play: Divide players into teams. The starting team picks an actor, with others guessing (roles rotate each turn).
Use the game box to keep the deck hidden, drawing cards one at a time to keep choices secret. Cards are double-sided, so actors choose an acting option from the first card side they see without showing others their card. (Young children can act out the card's picture, with adults giving hints if needed.) The actor then silently mimes the word or action, without props or pointing at objects in the room.
Guessers on the actor’s team have ten chances to guess correctly (alternatively, you can use your phone as a 1-minute timer). If guessed right, they keep the card; if not, the card is removed from play, ending their turn. Play passes to the next team.
The game goes on until a team collects five cards to win, or if the deck runs out, the team with the most cards wins. For more of a challenge, only act out words in red.
Feel free to incorporate your own house rules!
